There are many places to stay in and around Deadwood, we will attempt to sort this out for you! If you want a time-share camp site buy into the fun click on this link or call Larry at 605-722-5700 This page was not completed correctly, it will offer more detailed information later on, it is very hard to know the best places to recommend as the prices of the rooms and the quality of the food keep changing... almost on a daily basis! The Hotel/Motel rates normally go up in two steps each spring... once around Mother's Day, the final time just before Memorial Day. (The winter rates are slow to go back down, but normally after Christmas they get down to around $29 to $39 most places and jump to the $59 to $79 range in the summer). During the Biker Rally, (the first week in August), they double for eight days... The rates in Lead, (three miles up the hill), are a bit better, but limited... Spearfish, (twelve miles downhill to the north), has many rooms on days when the Passion Play is not running, (those performances during the summer are on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday). Sturgis, (also twelve miles downhill to the east), has rooms at all time except during the Bike Rally. Rapid City, (almost one hour away), has many locations and has never "booked up solid" at any time in the past. Normally all rooms in Deadwood are rented out by the Thursday before most big weekend events like Wild Bill Days and the Days of 76... (Many other weekends during the summer are often booked by Friday). The "Bike Rally" and "Kool Nites" are totally booked six months in advance! We often try to list a few of the best places to stay once we see what is going to happen each summer... After the changes in attitude from negative feelings following the wicked HBO show about this town went full circle many places adjusted rates accordingly... (and on the high side)! Bad things are happening, it is "hide and watch" time... Beware! Don't click on the "bad things" link unless you are an adult minded... When doing a search for the name Deadwood in the internet you will get thousands of hits on places to stay... It would be better for you to get the "low-down" on some of these places right here when we get this page completed correctly. (Or from some local contact you can trust)! World-wide names like Holiday Inn are always a good bet. (The Comfort Inn if you want the kids to have fun). Getting something to eat without getting sick in Deadwood is not a problem, there are over fifty places for a "sit-down" meal, and many others serving "finger-food" for a bite to eat... all around the clock too, (but somewhat limited after 10 PM). Almost every "tourist pamphlet" found anywhere include an "eat one free for each one you buy" coupon. (With the exception of the Midnight Star and a few other more elegant places). Many buffets are offered in the larger casinos, the Gold Dust is the best one... and the highest priced. Tin Lizzies salad bar is the cheapest. For a while Cadillac Jacks had the best food for the price, but they were new then and were trying hard to get market share. Two new places opened the spring of 2004 on Sherman Street, (two blocks from main street gambling), they both have great food at a bit higher cost. Also a nice outside cafe started up in the "Badland" section on lower main, they have the best home-made Chile dog... You should never pay more than a dollar or two for breakfast or lunch, ($5 for two... with coupon, many buffets and lunch specials run until 2 PM). After 5 PM expect to pay over five dollars for good prime rib, and over ten for a good steak. (Several gambling casinos outside the main street area have good specials running at times, watch the billboards on all roads coming in for more details). We are hoping to activate the below links as soon as we get all the data analyzed... Stay tuned.
