This page is more difficult than you would think! (There are so many types of events).

Many are "Adult-Minded" and a few have only room enough for those who already know about them!

It is best to promote the thing most people come here for... (no longer the girls, now it's the Cowboys)!

In 2007 the city decided to try a much younger gang to represent Deadwood.

This added some new problems... I sure hope it works out for everyone involved.

Two different groups, with different Shoot-outs and Trial of Jack McCall shows!

They said the younger actors would last longer in the heat... Now the rest of us just point to the action!

The way many "Old West" events are performed, sponsored, sanctioned, or promoted??? Has always varied quite a bit in the Black Hills... Actually many major events are also done with somewhat childish people calling the shots in places like Deadwood, where the gambling dollar is really the only thing that matters to many! This causes some events to be secondary... as if the tourist and their feelings do not matter, (mostly because many people in charge of the events are often very old fashion in their ways of thinking). You may have noticed this site has no ads or copyrights... it is also not "controlled" or regulated in any way... we can and do tell you the truth about any event we cover! (That is the good news... now the bad news... we have no professional help getting all this information in the right order! We also have no extra help to cover many events that happen at the same time). If you take the time to go through our entire domain you will find almost all major events covered at least once... especially all the ones worth checking out! (Some are scattered among other events along the same theme, others by the year they were the best, and a few by the topic addressed in that web page). The way we sorted them is more of a problem to many in a hurry... sorry, we did this as a hobby, not as a job! Many have said we did it the "Old-West" way, complete with bad spelling! But at least we did it, and if you can just slow down long enough to smell the roses you will enjoy the ride better! But, if you are in more of a rush, here are a few to get you started...

They say the most popular Old West events in Deadwood are Wild Bill Days and the Days of '76...

Other popular events worth seeing might be St. Pat's day, the 4th of July... or Kool Deadwood Nights (with the old cars).

One of the most interesting to some is the Deadweird contest on Halloween!

We can also offer you many links to other pages for some direction... depending on what your interest is, this may be the most helpful.

The link at the bottom of this page called All Black Hills Events leads into some pages with great detail, including everything our "parent" company is aware of... Although somewhat overwhelming, it covers almost anything going on at any time throughout all areas in and around the Black Hills. If you remain on web pages done by us you will find pictures of every major event that has happened since 1982! (Before that the "girls" were still working the bars and streets of Deadwood... As they said in some interviews you will see later on, don't tell my story yet... not enough people are dead yet).

I think the oldest picture we currently have placed on the internet, (of Pam or me actually on the streets of Deadwood), would be the afternoon she was warned not to wear a dress in the "Badlands" area of Deadwood Main Street... less she be mistaken for a whore!

This happened shortly after legal prostitution had ended in the early part of the 1980's... actually it did not end, they just could not openly advertise anymore! (Most "working girls" wore dresses... without any underwear, just as they did in the old days! They also remained in the section of town known as the badlands, which started at the #10 and Stockade... where this shot was taken). The tall guy in the center of this picture later used his walking stick to raise the back of my wife's dress to see if she was available! One of the girls who was running the oil wrestling contest told us why he did it... (One must understand he really meant no harm, after all... this was Deadwood and it happen during the rally).

After this event my wife wore slacks in Deadwood... and I was more careful about how I used my pictures and video! (I realize this is somewhat shameful and embarrassing history to place so close to the front end of our web site... it gets much worse, but much deeper into the site normally). This is true history and people should know ahead of time before wearing provocative clothing in an area with such a dark history of wicked behavior!

The second link below covers a few events not covered by anyone else. Also the more popular events... And a few things to do here in the hills that are not mentioned because they are not sponsored, or are unknown by anyone except the "local" people.

The third link takes you to Deadwood events only, which covers many holidays and special events put on since all those new "gambling dollars" started rolling in, (and casinos began to pay out tremendous amounts to get you to come here)... This page includes a word of caution for the younger people in your group.

There was a major development during the spring of 2004 due to the HBO program that aired about the town called Deadwood. It may have some far-reaching effects on future plans of some events in town as well... First of all, this show was very degrading to our women, it also offended the elderly by the over use of crude and vulgar language. Although it is said to be somewhat fictional in it's creation, many have taken it far too serious. Most families with children who are still impressionable may avoid coming here after parents view this unbelievable wicked behavior. It is common sense to prevent such history from causing irresponsible curiosity in younger minds.

Several things could happen differently from now on, (for Deadwood Events at least). First, they may choose to make entertainment more adult orientated for those who have now been attracted to this place, just following the trend. Secondly, they may separate the town into sections, somewhat like the "badlands" district of the past... with another children's area away from the gambling. Also, some may attempt to "clean up the town," trying to improve our image. (I do not think that will work as long as the HBO show continues). We should know more as time goes by...

(Added in the fall of 2004): There was very little change in things as of yet due to the bad publicity from the HBO program on this town! (We had some wicked people who came expecting to see various forms of bad behavior and they were disappointed). We had a bit of an increase in crimes involving guns and some of our girls have had some naughty things requested. For the most part very little changed though, the police force is strong enough to handle all that happened and most of the girls here are accustom to bad language.

(Added in the spring of 2005): The winter was slow due to lack of snow, business picked up fast when the promotion of the second "Deadwood Series" began and the first series was offered for sale... (The Wal-Mart Stores in this area cannot keep the DVD's in stock).

(Added in the spring of 2006): The winter never slowed down hardly at all except for when the roads were closed for snow! They delayed airing the third series and may cancel the fourth year... I sure hope so, we could use the break. (Land and home prices have doubled in the last three years, taxes and tension levels are higher than when they closed the whore houses... Even higher than when they started legal gambling).

(Added in the summer of 2007): The series died of natural causes, thank heavens... The numbers are down across the board for the first time since 1989 and everybody is blaming somebody. (That is OK by me, it is about time... we could use a break to reorganize).

And if you plan to move here... a bare lot or land facing the sun is your best bet, click here for info.

Things should settle down before long, I will try to complete more information on this event page soon after, see below links for more...
